The Pursuit of Happiness

sky, freedom, happiness

November kicks off the holiday season with high expectations for a cozy and festive time of year. However, for many this time of year is tinged with sadness, anxiety, or depression. Certainly, major depression or a severe anxiety disorder benefits most from professional help. But what about those who just feel lost or overwhelmed or down at this time of year? Research (and common sense) suggests that one aspect of the Thanksgiving season can actually lift the spirits, and it’s built right into the holiday — expressing gratitude.

The word gratitude is derived from the Latin word gratia, which means grace, graciousness, or gratefulness (depending on the context). In some ways gratitude encompasses all of these meanings. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what an individual receives, whether tangible or intangible. With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside themselves. As a result, gratitude also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.

In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.

People feel and express gratitude in multiple ways. They can apply it to the past (retrieving positive memories and being thankful for elements of childhood or past blessings), the present (not taking good fortune for granted as it comes), and the future (maintaining a hopeful and optimistic attitude). Regardless of the inherent or current level of someone’s gratitude, it’s a quality that individuals can successfully cultivate further.

Research on gratitude

Two psychologists, Dr. Robert A. Emmons of the University of California, Davis, and Dr. Michael E. McCullough of the University of Miami, have done much of the research on gratitude. In one study, they asked all participants to write a few sentences each week, focusing on particular topics.

One group wrote about things they were grateful for that had occurred during the week. A second group wrote about daily irritations or things that had displeased them, and the third wrote about events that had affected them (with no emphasis on them being positive or negative). After 10 weeks, those who wrote about gratitude were more optimistic and felt better about their lives. Surprisingly, they also exercised more and had fewer visits to physicians than those who focused on sources of aggravation.

Another leading researcher in this field, Dr. Martin E. P. Seligman, a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania, tested the impact of various positive psychology interventions on 411 people, each compared with a control assignment of writing about early memories. When their week’s assignment was to write and personally deliver a letter of gratitude to someone who had never been properly thanked for his or her kindness, participants immediately exhibited a huge increase in happiness scores. This impact was greater than that from any other intervention, with benefits lasting for a month.

Of course, studies such as this one cannot prove cause and effect. But most of the studies published on this topic support an association between gratitude and an individual’s well-being.

Other studies have looked at how gratitude can improve relationships. For example, a study of couples found that individuals who took time to express gratitude for their partner not only felt more positive toward the other person but also felt more comfortable expressing concerns about their relationship.

Managers who remember to say “thank you” to people who work for them may find that those employees feel motivated to work harder. Researchers at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania randomly divided university fund-raisers into two groups. One group made phone calls to solicit alumni donations in the same way they always had. The second group — assigned to work on a different day — received a pep talk from the director of annual giving, who told the fund-raisers she was grateful for their efforts. During the following week, the university employees who heard her message of gratitude made 50% more fund-raising calls than those who did not.

There are some notable exceptions to the generally positive results in research on gratitude. One study found that middle-aged divorced women who kept gratitude journals were no more satisfied with their lives than those who did not. Another study found that children and adolescents who wrote and delivered a thank-you letter to someone who made a difference in their lives may have made the other person happier — but did not improve their own well-being. This finding suggests that gratitude is an attainment associated with emotional maturity.

Ways to cultivate gratitude

Gratitude is a way for people to appreciate what they have instead of always reaching for something new in the hopes it will make them happier, or thinking they can’t feel satisfied until every physical and material need is met. Gratitude helps people refocus on what they have instead of what they lack. And, although it may feel contrived at first, this mental state grows stronger with use and practice.

Here are some ways to cultivate gratitude on a regular basis.

Write a thank-you note. You can make yourself happier and nurture your relationship with another person by writing a thank-you letter expressing your enjoyment and appreciation of that person’s impact on your life. Send it, or better yet, deliver and read it in person if possible. Make a habit of sending at least one gratitude letter a month. Once in a while, write one to yourself.

Thank someone mentally. No time to write? It may help just to think about someone who has done something nice for you, and mentally thank the individual.

Keep a gratitude journal. Make it a habit to write down or share with a loved one thoughts about the gifts you’ve received each day.

Count your blessings. Pick a time every week to sit down and write about your blessings — reflecting on what went right or what you are grateful for. Sometimes it helps to pick a number — such as three to five things — that you will identify each week. As you write, be specific and think about the sensations you felt when something good happened to you.

Pray. People who are religious can use prayer to cultivate gratitude.

Meditate. Mindfulness meditation involves focusing on the present moment without judgment. Although people often focus on a word or phrase (such as “peace”), it is also possible to focus on what you’re grateful for (the warmth of the sun, a pleasant sound, etc.).

The Short but Powerful Guide to Finding Your Passion

connect, jigsaw, strategy

Following your passion can be a tough thing. But figuring out what that passion is can be even more elusive.

I’m lucky — I’ve found my passion, and I’m living it. I can testify that it’s the most wonderful thing, to be able to make a living doing what you love.

And so, in this little guide, I’d like to help you get started figuring out what you’d love doing. This turns out to be one of the most common problems of many Zen Habits readers — including many who recently responded to me on Twitter.

This will be the thing that will get you motivated to get out of bed in the morning, to cry out, “I’m alive! I’m feeling this, baby!”. And to scare your family members or anyone who happens to be in yelling distance as you do this.

This guide won’t be comprehensive, and it won’t find your passion for you. But it will help you in your journey to find it.

Here’s how.

1. What are you good at? Unless you’re just starting out in life, you have some skills or talent, shown some kind of aptitude. Even if you are just starting out, you might have shown some talent when you were young, even as young as elementary school. Have you always been a good writer, speaker, drawer, organizer, builder, teacher, friend? Have you been good at ideas, connecting people, gardening, selling? Give this some thought. Take at least 30 minutes, going over this question — often we forget about things we’ve done well. Think back, as far as you can, to jobs, projects, hobbies. This could be your passion. Or you may have several things. Start a list of potential candidates.

2. What excites you? It may be something at work — a little part of your job that gets you excited. It could be something you do outside of work — a hobby, a side job, something you do as a volunteer or a parent or a spouse or a friend. It could be something you haven’t done in awhile. Again, think about this for 30 minutes, or 15 at the least. If you don’t, you’re probably shortchanging yourself. Add any answers to your list.

3. What do you read about? What have you spent hours reading about online? What magazines do you look forward to reading? What blogs do you follow? What section of the bookstore do you usually peruse? There may be many topics here — add them to the list.

4. What have you secretly dreamed of? You might have some ridiculous dream job you’ve always wanted to do — to be a novelist, an artist, a designer, an architect, a doctor, an entrepreneur, a programmer. But some fear, some self-doubt, has held you back, has led you to dismiss this idea. Maybe there are several. Add them to the list — no matter how unrealistic.

5. Learn, ask, take notes. OK, you have a list. Pick one thing from the list that excites you most. This is your first candidate. Now read up on it, talk to people who’ve been successful in the field (through their blogs, if they have them, or email). Make a list of notes of things you need to learn, need to improve on, skills you want to master, people to talk to. Study up on it, but don’t make yourself wait too long before diving into the next step.

6. Experiment, try. Here’s where the learning really takes place. If you haven’t been already, start to do the thing you’ve chosen. Maybe you already are, in which case you might be able to skip to the next step or choose a second candidate to try out. But if you haven’t been, start now — just do it. It can be in the privacy of your own home, but as quickly as possible, make it public however you can. This motivates you to improve, it gets you feedback, and your reputation will improve as you do. Pay attention to how you feel doing it — is it something you look forward to, that gets you excited, that you love to share?

7. Narrow things down. I recommend that you pick 3-5 things from your list, if it’s longer than that, and do steps 5 & 6 with them. This could take month, or perhaps you’ve already learned about and tried them all out. So now here’s what you need to ask yourself: which gets you the most excited? Which of these can produce something that people will pay for or get excited about? Which can you see yourself doing for years (even if it’s not a traditional career path)? Pick one, or two at the most, and focus on that. You’re going to do the next three steps with it: banish your fears, find the time, and make it into a career if possible. If it doesn’t work out, you can try the next thing on your list — there’s no shame in giving something a shot and failing, because it’ll teach you valuable lessons that will help you to be successful in the next attempt.

8. Banish your fears. This is the biggest obstacle for most people – self-doubt and fear of failure. You’re going to face it and banish it. First, acknowledge it rather than ignoring or denying it. Second, write it down, to externalize it. Third, feel it, and be OK with having it. Fourth, ask yourself, “What’s the worst that can happen?” Usually it’s not catastrophic. Fifth, prepare yourself for doing it anyway, and then do it. Take small steps, as tiny as possible, and forget about what might happen — focus on what actually is happening, right now. And then celebrate your success, no matter how small.

9. Find the time. Don’t have the time to pursue this passion? Make the time, dammit! If this is a priority, you’ll make the time — rearrange your life until you have the time. This might mean waking earlier, or doing it after work or during lunch, or on weekends. It will probably mean canceling some commitments, simplifying your work routing or doing a lot of work in advance (like you’re going on a vacation). Do what it takes.

10. How to make a living doing it. This doesn’t happen overnight. You need to do something, get good at it, be passionate about it. This could take months or years, but if you’re having fun, that’s what’s most important. When you get to the point where someone would pay you for it, then you’re golden — there are many ways to make a living at that point, including doing freelance or consulting work, making information products such as ebooks, writing a blog and selling advertising. In fact, I recommend you do a blog if you’re not already — it’ll help solidify your thinking, build a reputation, find people who are interested in what you do, demonstrate your knowledge and passion.

I told you this wouldn’t be easy. It’ll require a lot of reflection and soul-searching, at first, then a lot of courage and learning and experimentation, and finally a lot of commitment.

But it’s all worth it — every second, every ounce of courage and effort. Because in the end, you’ll have something that will transform your life in so many ways, will give you that reason to jump out of bed, will make you happy no matter how much you make.

I hope you follow this guide and find success, because I wish on you nothing less than finding your true passion.

What is Meditation? The Science of How it Makes us Happier.

yoga, outdoor, woman

A quiet explosion of new research indicating that meditation can physically change the brain in astonishing ways has started to push into mainstream.

Several studies suggest that these changes through meditation can make you happier, less stressed — even nicer to other people. It can help you control your eating habits and even reduce chronic pain, all the while without taking prescription medication.

Meditation is an intimate and intense exercise that can be done solo or in a group, and one study showed that 20 million Americans say they practice meditation. It has been used to help treat addictions, to clear psoriasis and even to treat men with impotence.

The U.S. Marines are testing meditation to see if it makes more focused, effective warriors. Corporate executives at Google, General Mills, Target and Aetna Insurance, as well as students in some of the nation’s classrooms have used meditation.

Various celebrities also are known meditators, including shock jock Howard Stern, actors Richard Gere, Goldie Hawn and Heather Graham, and Rivers Cuomo, the lead singer of the band Weezer.

In one study, a research team from Massachusetts General Hospital looked at the brain scans of 16 people before and after they participated in an eight-week course in mindfulness meditation. The study, published in the January issue of Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging, concluded that after completing the course, parts of the participants’ brains associated with compassion and self-awareness grew, and parts associated with stress shrank.

Recently, the Dalai Lama granted permission for his monks, who are master mediators, to have their brains studied at the University of Wisconsin, one of the most high-tech brain labs in the world.

Richie Davidson, a PhD at the university, and his colleagues, led the study and said they were amazed by what they found in the monks’ brain activity read-outs. During meditation, electroencephalogram patterns increased and remains higher than the initial baseline taken from a non-meditative state.

But you don’t have to be a monk to benefit from meditation, which is now gaining acceptance in the field of medicine.

Physicians have increasingly started prescribing meditation instead of pills to benefit their patients. A Harvard Medical School report released in May found that more than 6 million Americans had been recommended meditation and other mind-body therapies by conventional health care providers.

Perhaps the most mind-bending potential benefit of meditation is that it will actually make practitioners nicer. Chuck Raison, a professor at Emory University, conducted a meditation study in which he hooked up microphones to participants who had been taught basic meditation and those who hadn’t. He then recorded them at random over a period of time. Raison found that these newly-trained mediators used less harsh language than people who had no meditation experience.

“They were more empathic with people,” Raison said. “They were spending more time with other people. They laugh more, you know, all those things. They didn’t use the word ‘I’ as much. They use the word ‘we’ more.”

However, even the Dalai Lama admitted that meditation is not the silver bullet cure-all for every ailment or emotion.

“Occasionally, [I] lose my temper,” he said. “If someone is never lose temper then perhaps that may come from outer space, real strange.”

The Dalai Lama also cautioned that meditation takes patience, so new mediators should not expect immediate results.

“The enlightenment not depend on rank,” he said, laughing. “It depends on practice.”

Some scientists believe that in a generation, Americans will see meditation as being as essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle as diet and exercise.

What to Do When Your Energy Feels Heavy

When there is a lot going on in your life or the world around you, all the different thoughts, feelings and emotions you experience can build up and leave your energy feeling heavy and dense. Over time as these energies accumulate, it can take a toll how you feel and how you live your life. This crystal practice is designed to help you break through that heavy energy and get back to your highest state of being so you can feel your best and live the life you want to live.

This practice has four parts: 1) getting clear on what you want to release, 2) energy clearing with Selenite, 3) a body scan with Black Tourmaline, and 4) focusing on what you want to create. Together, these four parts allow you to work through any dense or heavy energy within your mind, body and spirit and address the different areas or ways that unwanted energy can show up in your life.

For this practice, you just need two crystals: a Selenite wand and a Black Tourmaline stone (or another black stone). This practice purposefully uses very few “tools” because when you already feel overwhelmed the last thing you need is more “stuff.” This simple practice is a perfect reminder that sometimes less is more – all you need are your two crystals and yourself.  So pick up your crystals and let’s get started.

Step 1: Get Clear On What You Want To Release

Focus on whatever energy may be weighing you down or holding you back and get crystal clear on what it is you want to release. Now, pick one word for the day, week, month, or however long of a period you want to work with this word. This word, unlike the first word, should represent whatever unwanted or negative energy that you want to release from your energy field – words like excuses, stuck, negativity, anxiety, stress, fear, and other feelings or emotions that arise for you. Once you’ve picked your word, envision that energy leaving your mind, body and spirit and being released back into the earth in the next practices.

Any time you find yourself experiencing or feeling that word, release that frequency from your body and into the earth so you can move forward without that unwanted, heavy energy.

Step 2: Clear with Selenite

The second step is to clear your energy with help of Selenite, one of the highest vibrational crystals on the planet. This white stone purifies your overall energy and prepares you for the deeper work later in the practice, as well as addresses specific energy centers and areas of the body that often hold onto heavy or dense energy.

This full-body energy clearing starts to infuse light and higher vibrational frequencies into your energy field as it pulls away some of the energetic grime and heavy energy. Here’s how to do it:

Hold your Selenite crystal in your dominant hand and hover it 2-3 inches above your skin. In a downward motion, sweep the Selenite crystal over your arms, chest, head, legs, back, hands and all over your body.

After a general cleansing, it’s time to focus on specific energy centers and areas of the body. Hold your Selenite crystal over each of the following areas of the body to clear the energy of that area and what it represents:

  1. The third eye to clear unwanted thoughts
  2. The heart to clear any emotions or feelings you are holding onto
  3. The stomach to clear anything keeping you stuck or holding you back from moving forward
  4. The root chakra to clear anything that is rocking your foundation (especially related to money and finances)

Finally, take your Selenite and sweep the sides of your body in a downward motion, brushing the energy away from your body and down into the ground beneath you.

Step 3: Go Deeper with Black Tourmaline

After clearing with Selenite, you are ready to pick up your second crystal and go deeper. For this crystal practice, we suggest using Black Tourmaline but you can use another black stone if you do not have Black Tourmaline. The black color is important for this exercise because the stone will be absorbing the negative energy from your energy field, and black stones can hold that darkness for you so you can let it go.

Hold your stone in your dominant hand and close your eyes. Start to scan your body and your energy, noticing any areas that feel heavy, dense, stuck, or are holding the energy you want to release. As you scan, hold the stone over that part of your body and gently rub it against your skin, allowing it to absorb the unwanted energy that resides in that area of the body. For example, if you have been feeling a lot of fear or anxiety in your stomach area, hold the black stone over your stomach and rub gently. If you’ve been feeling it in your neck or shoulders, hold the stone over those parts of your body. It will be different for everyone, so take it at your own pace and listen to your body.

Step 4: Focus On What You Want To Create

After you’ve cleared your energy, it’s time to align your energy with the intention or energy you want to embrace. Pick one word for the day, week, month, or however long of a period you want to work with this word. The word should represent something good you want more of in your life – words like love, happiness, balance, peace, uplifted, and other uplifting and positive messages work well here, but you can choose whatever energy you need. Once you’ve decided on your word, say it out loud three times.

Any time something comes up for you that throws you off, come back to your word and reconnect with that energy.

After you’ve finished all four steps, make sure to cleanse your crystals to rid them of any heavy energy you released.

You can use this practice every day for energetic maintenance, or as-needed whenever you feel your energy is heavy.

5. Be Around Nature

I love being around nature, allowing my mind to balance and relax whilst focusing on the sounds, smells, and sites. Being away from electronics and busy schedules really helps me to unwind, allowing myself the time to appreciate nature and be grateful for what we have. Grounding is believed to be beneficial for us and this can simply be done by connecting with nature, allowing your bare feet to walk on the ground, paddling in the sea or even hugging a tree.

There is now a huge amount of research looking into the psychological benefits of being in contact with nature.  An interesting study by Li, Deal, Zhou, Slavenas & Sullivan (2018) (3) looked at the moods of 155 adolescents and found that there was a significant association between the individual’s daily mood and the level of nature they experienced.  Another study by Hamann and Ivtzan (2016) (4) focused on an online intervention program called Rewild Your Life. This programmed challenge uses to spend 30 minutes a day in nature. The study found that those who completed this program showed increases in mood, well-being, meaning, and mindfulness compared to the control group. Interestingly in this study meaning and mindfulness were affected in only “wilderness” not urban “greenspace”.

Both of these studies show the importance of unplugging from our lives and spending valuable time outside in nature, try to experience different types of nature and spend time appreciating its strong energies.

6. Feng Shui Your Room

Our space can have a huge impact on our productivity, our mood, and our decisions. Psychologists have known the impact our surroundings and environment can have on us for decades. Feng Shui is an ancient study that focuses on the location of items around the home, the flow of energy and how the colors, shapes, materials and much more can influence you and your room.

Within Feng Shui colors are important for example, red is known to be a warm but exciting color that can heighten your energies and excite you. This is supported by the work of Wexner (1954) (5) that studies the association between color and mood. It was found that participants associated cool colors with calm comfortable moods and warm colors with more stressful and exciting moods.

Marie Kondo’s Netflix series and bestselling book (The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up) can be seen everywhere, it has definitely inspired further content that focuses on de-cluttering, tidying and clearing out. It is important for each item to have a valuable place within your life and this is definitely in line with Feng Shui and what we believe here at Reclaiming Zen. Allowing your home to be clutter-free can really help your energies and your mind to flow freely. We believe that it is important to look after your space and really use it in a way that is relaxing for your mind.

7. Place Plants In Your Home

It can be hard for us to get outside all of the time, schedules, locations, and weather can all influence how we feel about getting out and spending time with nature. A great way to feel close to nature is by getting a house plant. Having a plant is a great way to appreciate nature, by spending time looking after your plant and seeing it grow, you can begin to see the beauty of nature in front of you.

Everything has an energetic field and plants are not excluded from that, having a plant and caring for this plant is a great way to raise your vibration and ground your energies.

A study by Larsen and colleagues (1998) (6) measured productivity, attitude, and mood of those working in offices filled with either no plants, a moderate number of plants or a high number of plants. This study found that the plants actually decreased productivity but individuals reported higher levels of mood, the found the office more attractive and perceived comfort when the plants were presents. A more recent study at the University of Technology (7) provides evidence that indoor pot plants can improve air quality! So how about adding some plants to somewhere relaxing in your home?

8. Use Sound

Listening to music, gongs, and singing bowls are a great way to shift our energies and get our vibrations flowing. You do not need to be a spiritual guru to use the power of sound to lift your vibrations and it this may come as a surprise but you don’t have to listen to crashing waves and angelic music all of the time. Raising your vibrations occurs when you are uplifted with happiness, joy, and acceptance. This took me a while to get used to but it really is exhilarating once you understand this. If you enjoy rock music or dancing around to electric sounds then do this, accept the things that make you feel lifted and allow yourself to do them. If you enjoy spiritual music then listen to that but there is nothing wrong with listening to the type of music or sounds you enjoy.

Now spiritually singing bowls, gongs and specific frequencies are known to help align our bodies, heal and shift stagnant energy (8). It can be useful to use these spiritual tools to help you boost your energies and connect spiritually. There is some really beautiful work by people using gongs, chimes, gongs and singing bowls on YouTube.

Listening to music you love can instantly bring you happiness and raise your vibrations. Get the music on and have a dance. Another great way to raise your vibration is to listen to chimes, Tibetan music, and singing bowls. Many

great vibration raising sounds can be found on YouTube.

9. Start Practicing Meditation

Meditation is growing increasingly popular and there are good reasons for it. Meditation is a very quick way to slow down, focus your energies and connect with your inner self. This time for reflection allows your mind time to just accept, often answers spring to mind, deep-rooted problems are surfaced and we are given the opportunity to work through these things. Meditation is not all about relaxing the mind and within Buddhism it is often thought of as a practice, not a time for relaxing the brain but actually a study to be strengthened and practiced every day. It is not a time for you to try not to think anything, it is quite the opposite, it is a time for you to begin allowing your mind to think but rather than questioning your thoughts it is about accepting and letting them go, allowing them to flow through whilst you are mindful in the present moment.

Whilst research within meditation is still growing and the definitions of meditation and its effects are sometimes hard to measure there is growing evidence suggesting its benefits. Research (9) has shown benefits for cardiovascular health, the psychosocial adjustment of those with cancer, chronic pain disorders, menopausal symptoms, memory loss, stress management and much more.

Research has begun to show the effects meditating can have on the brain. In particular the changes in white matter (10) and grey matter (11). We spend so much time looking after our bank accounts, our families, our relationships and friends but often sacrifice our mind and our brain. Why not give yourself just 10 minutes a day to slow down and practice mindful meditation? There are 1440 minutes in a day so can you find a spare 10 for your brain?

10. Visualization

Our brains are amazing, our ability to daydream, visualize anything and really get creative is something wonderful. A fantastic way to focus your energise, and raise your vibration, is by visualising a place you enjoy, a memory or something that you are currently grateful for.

Just sit back, relax and allow your mind to really be set free.  If you want to know more about visualisation and dream boards

11. Positive Affirmations – Do They Work?

Affirmations are an interesting topic. Our minds are powerful and we really should speak kindly to ourselves and give ourselves more credit. A great way to raise your vibrations is by really appreciating yourself, coming into unconditional loving energies.

A very interesting study (12) looked at the effectiveness of affirmations. Interestingly they found that those with lower-self esteem actually felt worse when repeating positive affirmations and thinking about how that statement was true; those with high self-esteem felt better. This is important as it shows how affirmations can benefit some individuals but actually have the opposite effect on others.

This makes sense because repeating things that we do not believe to be true could make you feel worse, if you don’t believe you are worthy of these positive affirmations then they may make you feel worse. A great exercise to try is writing down things that you do love about yourself with examples and memories of things you have done. Any time you do not feel worthy of your own praise remember these things and bring yourself into a place of compassion.

12. Try Some Reiki

Alternative therapies are growing in popularity and the idea of our bodies energy flow has been used within medicine throughout ancient times. Research by Alice Moore has shown how different mind-body-spirit techniques can often help reduce anxiety, pain, strengthen the immune system and accelerate healing by inducing a “relaxation response” (13).

Spending the time to focus on the flow of your energies can really feel uplifting. Spending the time to acknowledge your own energies and the connection we all have, can really help. For me, it definitely helped build my self-esteem and confidence in my own body.

Chakras

Crown Chakra

Let the pendulum spin naturally over this Chakra, it is believed that this is clockwise for men and anticlockwise for women, this is the direction it should spin as it clears.

After a while the pendulum should change direction. This is because after the crystal has cleansed the Chakra and it needs to replace that energy with fresh new energy. This Chakra is Violet, so after the pendulum stops spinning we suggest placing an Amethyst (or Clear Quartz) above the top of your head, off the body, to help seal in the energy.

Third Eye Chakra

The next Chakra to work on is the Third Eye Chakra located at the centre of the forehead. For this energy centre and all others there is no difference in the direction that the pendulum swings for either sex.

The pendulum will spin counter-clockwise to take stuff out and clockwise to place energy in. Let the pendulum spin above the body in the middle of the forehead. This Chakra is Indigo, so once the pendulum has finished spinning, we suggest placing a piece of Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite or Dumortierite between the eyebrows.

Throat Chakra

Next is the throat Chakra located at the base of your throat. Again, the pendulum will spin counter-clockwise to take stagnant energies out and spin clockwise to put positive energies in. This Chakra is blue so we suggest placing a Blue Lace Agate, Blue Calcite, Turquoise or Angelite at this energy centre.

Heart Chakra

The heart Chakra is located at the centre of the chest. Let the pendulum spin until it changes direction and eventually stops. This Chakra is green so we recommend using Aventurine or Tourmaline. This Chakra is located at the sternum directly in the middle (not to the left like the physical heart). If you prefer a pink crystal can be used such as Rose Quartz.

Solar Plexus Chakra

Next is the Solar Plexus. This energy centre is in the middle of the abdominal region between your lower ribs and belly button. This Chakra is yellow so we suggest placing a piece of Amber, Citrine, yellow Jasper or yellow Calcite here.

Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is the next to be cleared. This Chakra is orange so once the pendulum finishes spinning we suggest using Carnelian or Citrine. The crystal should be placed between the hip bones where your reproductive organs are.

Root Chakra

The last Chakra is the root (base) Chakra. The pendulum is used again it will change direction and stop spinning when it has finished. This Chakra is red so we recommend using Rubies, Black Tourmaline, Jet and Red Jasper. This crystal should be placed off the body between the inner thighs.

Once you are done we suggest waiting 5-15 mins to allow the energies to settle. We suggest visualising a white cloak surrounding your body and grounding you in place. Many individuals may feel a difference after cleansing the front of the body but for others it may be beneficial to also cleanse the back of the body in the same way. We suggest doing this once a month to allow the Chakras to run smoothly.

The same process can be carried out without the pendulum, just by placing the crystals in the corresponding areas and visualising the chakras being cleared. All cleansing should be done in a relaxing environment. Make sure that the temperature is comfortable and dim the lights. Make sure to take some deep breaths and bring yourself into a state of relaxation.

Don’t worry if the crystals move or fall off. You can choose to leave them or replace them, if they are left the healing process will not stop. Energy crosses all boundaries of time and space so just do what feel right at the time. If you replace it and it falls of again we do recommend leaving it – trust the process as the energy knows what it is doing.

The same ideas can be used in relation to timing. The crystals can be left on the body for as long as needed. Your Chakras will be balanced and rejuvenated so do not force yourself to stay longer than you can manage. Forcing yourself to stay longer may create stress and unpleasant feelings. Always listen to your energies.

Your crystals are working to cleanse your Chakras so it is important to also keep them cleansed. This can easily be done by placing the crystals under running water or passing them through incense smoke or sage smoke.

Let me know how you get on and what experiences you have all had.

How to shape your Spiritual destiny

Shape the Spiritual destiny

Shape the Spiritual destiny
A spiritual union

They must know, then, that the above-named gentleman whenever he was at leisure (which was mostly all the year round) gave himself up to reading books of chivalry with such ardour and avidity that he almost entirely neglected the pursuit of his field-sports, and even the management of his property; and to such a pitch did his eagerness and infatuation go that he sold many an acre of tillage land to buy books of chivalry to read, and brought home as many of them as he could get. Meditation and reading discourses form the primary practice of Soul Transcendence in Triquetra Tree.

Changing Everybody’s Life

But of all there were none he liked so well as those of the famous Feliciano de Silva’s composition, for their lucidity of style and complicated conceits were as pearls in his sight, particularly when in his reading he came upon courtships and cartels, where he often found passages like “the reason of the unreason with which my reason is afflicted so weakens my reason that with reason I murmur at your beauty;” or again, “the high heavens render you deserving of the desert your greatness deserves.”

Spiritual Connections

Triquetra Tree is a Spiritual, Wicca and Magic (all kinds) website. It is developed  for those who are genuinely interested in Spirituality, Blackmagic Spells and Voodoo Rituals. Voodoo and Blackmagic knows no barrier; no distance; does not respect the colour of the skin, considers not a person’s societal status; wealth and affluence means nothing; serves both the rich and the poor; does not discriminate amongst the sexes, breaks all barriers, has no fall back or back fire; and knows not the difference between day and night.

Begin the Better understanding

It for those with serious intentions accompanied with genuine desire to achieve happiness in life. the sceptic should stay way. if you come here, be sure that your request will be met. Voodoo, Blackmagic and wicca will conquer and destroy all the gates of lack, frustrations, complications, stagnations, blockages, depressions, love, sexual difficulties, business failures. it shows the way to lasting joy, health, happiness, hope, success, glory and fulfilment.

Shape the Spirituality
Get the Aesthetic

The Dark Arts (Voodoo, Wicca and Black Magic) have been given a bad reputation mostly because of its name. Most people infer “Dark” to mean evil and unholy. This is a big misconception, Voodoo and  Black Magic relies primarily on the powers of the Moon, stars, and entities of the night such as passion, dreams, and winds.  Voodoo, Wicca and Black Magic are used best with those who are passionate and faithful in their cause. The more determined a person is, the better and faster is the result.

The nectar of Spiritual Tranquillity

Many ask what are the differences between White, Voodoo, Wicca and Black Magic. White Magic is more subtle and is powered through the Sun and entities of the day. Voodoo and Black Magic can bring drastic changes in ones life, so drastic in fact many earlier practitioners were persecuted.

Develop the divinity

Saying it was the work of the devil is simply untrue, but has made finding a reputable caster extremely difficult, as earlier generations of casters practised in secret at great risks. Voodoo, Wicca and Black Magic are just another vehicle in the journey to our goals, but like a bike to a car, it’s just faster and more productive.
